CII Kerala welcomes budget, calls it positive

Trivandrum: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Kerala Chapter has welcomed the Union Budget 2024 calling it positive for the industry and the State. The CII Kerala leadership has asserted that the budget will create more jobs and boost the economy.

Interacting with the media after the budget presentation in Thiruvananthapuram today, Thomas John Muthoot, Deputy Chairman, CII Southern Region and MD, Muthoot Fincorp said that initiatives like internships will provide skilled workers to industries. At the same time, several other measures will bolster sustainable growth. Skilling will create more employment opportunities in the MSME sector. These steps will bring more people to formal employment. Prioritising the nine sectors is a major step to growth momentum. CII welcomes this budget as most industry requirements have been addressed.

Vinod Manjila, Chairman, CII Kerala State Council and Chairman, Manjilas Food Tech commented that while CII welcomes the budget, there was expectation on the plantation policy which would have benefited Kerala.

Shalini Warrier, Vice Chairperson, CII Kerala State Council and Executive Director & Business Head – Retail, Federal Bank said it is an extremely good budget. A lot of investments and yet the fiscal glide path was better than what was anticipated at 4.9%. There is a lot of focus on ‘ease of doing business’, and a lot of areas are getting simplified. Very importantly a comprehensive paper on next-generation reforms to look at all the factor costs, especially the IT Act 1961. It touches upon many areas that have come in the form of suggestions that members of the CII have presented. This is a very strong message for the industry and all the stakeholders of the economy. The abolition of the Angel tax is a welcome move and Kerala startups will benefit from that.
